Aromatic Sulfonamides: Synthesis and Investigation of Sulfonamides by a Magnetic and Efficient Catalyst

Abstract

The most common reaction in the pharmaceutical industry is the reaction between sulfonyl chlorides and amines that form amide bonds. The present study reports a novel strategy for producing aromatic sulfonamides through MNPs-AHBA-Cu amide coupling. To form the corresponding sulfonamide, ligand charge is transferred to copper metal. In addition to FT-IR and VSM, ICP-OES has also been used to fully characterize the catalyst. The reaction takes place at atmospheric pressure, at relatively low temperatures, in a short reaction time, with PEG as the solvent. As a result, the present protocol is practical and sustainable because it facilitates recovery through an external magnet, the catalyst can be reused, and the sulfonamide produced has excellent yields.
