InBr3-Catalyzed Deoxygenation of Sulfoxides and Carboxylic Acids with a Hydrosilane

Abstract

A facile and practical method for the direct reduction of sulfoxides and carboxylic acids with a diverse range of functional groups using tetramethyldisiloxane (TMDS) in the presence of catalytic amount of InBr3 has been described. The corresponding sulfides and alcohols were furnished with high yields in a suitable range of times. This new methodology is highly chemoselective, tolerating several functional groups such as Br, Cl, OCH3, OH and carbonyl groups
